I let my youngest son skip school on Friday.
He texted me from his bedroom early that morning, with a well-thought out list of reasons: I need to get some personal affairs in order, this would be a much needed day to kinda relax mentally, I don’t have much going on at school today…
I said yes, called school and told them he was taking a personal day. I believe he’s technically over the limit for however many personal days we can excuse him for, but you know what? I don’t care. His mental and physical well-being are more important to me than his school attendance record, and I absolutely, positively believe that a day to regroup was the best use of his Friday.
It’s not easy to buck the system, especially for those of us who are people pleasers and rule followers.
