Common "Pitfalls" for Boys
Points of development that can be problematic for boys & their families
I didn’t see the many ways in which gender affects boys’ lives until — well, until I’d been a “boy mom” for nearly four years.
…I didn’t realize that massive misunderstandings regarding boys’ needs and developmental trajectory underpinned most of their socialization.
If I’d know any of that, I might have been more prepared when my bright son started telling me he “hated school” at age five. I probably wouldn’t have spent so much time crying as we navigated the tween years, and I would have proactively prepared for my boys’ teen years.
…I don’t want you to be as unprepared as I was, so I’m going to shine a light on the potential pitfalls that lie ahead…
That passage is from Chapter 1 of my book, Building Boys: Raising Great Guys in a World That Misunderstands Males.
And that’s part of what we’ll talk about in Building Boys Book Club on Thursday April 25. (Did you register yet?)
We’ll talk about WHY these are such challenging stages — & we’ll discuss HOW to support boys going through these stages:
Starting school
The tween years
Adolescence
We’ll talk about how to support one another too!
Come join us.
Here’s to building boys!
